  Sunbather struck by truck at Madison park

  A 28-year-old woman who was sunbathing was taken to a hospital shortly after noon after being struck by a city of Madison truck Wednesday. The truck was delivering bark and was operating on a grassy area of James Madison Park at 314 E. Gorham St. Police said the victim's condition was not immediately known. Madison police said the incident is under investigation. Stay tuned to WISC-TV and Channel 3000 for continuing coverage.

  Officials: Unemployment rates drop in Wisconsin cities, counties

  Unemployment rates have dropped in most Wisconsin counties and largest cities, according to state officials. The state Department of Workforce Development reported the latest figures for April on Wednesday, less than two weeks before the June 5 recall election targeting Gov. Scott Walker. Unemployment figures have been a major issue, with Walker relying on one set of numbers that show Wisconsin gained more than 23,000 jobs in 2011 while his opponent Tom Barrett points to another that shows a nearly 34,000 job loss. The latest figures show 30 of the state's largest cities had an unemployment rate decrease last month. Mount Pleasant saw a small increase and Brookfield's was unchanged. Every county except one had an unemployment rate decrease. Iron County's rate increased from 12.7 percent to 12.8 percent.

  Police catch man who stole from downtown street musician

  A street musician had money stolen from his guitar case in downtown Madison on Tuesday night, and police say nearby witnesses helped them catch the thief. The incident happened just after 7 p.m. in the 100 block of King Street . According to police, Julian Parks, 19, of Madison was looking through some CDs in the street musician's guitar case when he grabbed a handful of cash from the case and ran. Police said the musician chased after Parks and caught up with him, but Parks only gave him $1 back. The musician said he suspected Parks had tossed the rest of the money while being chased, police said. The musician went back to his unattended guitar case while witnesses went to police and identified Parks. Police said when officers found him, he had some crumpled up money in his pocket. Police arrested Parks for stealing.

  South Carolina governor campaigning for Walker

  South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is traveling to Wisconsin next week to campaign for Gov. Scott Walker. Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey said Wednesday Haley will make the trip June 1. The Republican Governor's Association is covering her expenses. Walker faces Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in the June 5 recall election. Godfrey says Walker asked Haley to help him out. Godfrey said Haley agreed because Walker's fight is about more than Wisconsin. He says the recall is about a courageous governor who carries out his promises regardless of the pushback. The effort by Democrats and union leaders to recall Walker began after he successfully pushed to remove the collective bargaining power of public employee unions. Haley frequently bashes unions and considers South Carolina's low union membership rate an economic development tool.

  Milk production continues to improve in Wisconsin

  Milk production continues to improve in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where dairy farmers had a stronger April this year than they did last year. Wisconsin harvested 2.3 billion pounds last month. That's up 4 percent from the total yield in April 2011. In Minnesota, production totaled 770 million pounds, a 1 percent improvement. The overall dairy yield improved in 22 of the 23 major milk-producing states in the nation. Pennsylvania had a 1 percent decrease, in part because there were 5,000 fewer cows. National output was 16.0 billion pounds, an increase of 3 percent. Wisconsin remains firmly entrenched as the nation's second-leading producer, and Minnesota remains in 7th place. As usual, California led the way with 3.6 billion pounds of milk.
